The Jim Rice Scholarship
The Jim Rice Scholarship was established in 2018 in loving memory of our father, grandfather and husband, James Rice Sr. Jim Rice started as a crew person at 17 years old to pay his way through college at the University of Akron. He worked his way up and became a McDonald’s Owner Operator in 1987. Jim lived his life based on his core values – honesty, integrity, hard work, fairness, and compassion. Jim was a man of vision, business intuition and a fierce determination to succeed. He embraced life challenges with faith, courage, and bold tenacity. He was involved in countless civic activities and organizations to improve and give back to the community. Jim was most known for his business acumen, kindness, and generosity to others.
This annual $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to an employee of Rice Enterprises LLC who demonstrates a strong commitment to school, work, and community. In addition, the recipient should exemplify one of the values that Jim Rice modeled throughout his life. |

McDonald's can help you advance your education and achieve your dreams! All employees are eligible to apply for this local scholarship program. Crew and managers can apply every quarter. Winners will be announced in March, June, September and December.
Archways to Opportunity®
McDonald’s and its independent franchisees are committed to helping employees further their education and achieve their dreams. To help anyone who works at a company-owned or independently franchised restaurant, we created Archways to Opportunity, a comprehensive education strategy with multiple programs that give people an opportunity to grow and learn – no matter where they are on their journey. Employees are eligible to receive up to $3,000 annually. Programs are available to McDonald’s employees and the employees of participating independent franchisees. Here are just a few ways Archways to Opportunity can help employees on the path to success:
